When I don’t know how to use a camera, which is roughly 70% of the time, I tend to take crappy shots. It’s unfortunate since I pride myself in taking some damn fine shots of my feasts for this here blog. So rather than have a bunch of mediocre posts of good eateries with bad photos, I decided to pool them into one craptastic post. I’m sure this will be a recurring series since I am not too hot with a camera sometimes and the lighting can be atrocious in restaurants. I also don’t want to be that guy at the restaurant photographing food and using flash to annoy people while they dine so the low lighting can cause blurry shots. With that, let’s visit Dumont Burger in Williamsburg…
This shot is good. We are outdoors. The burgers here are so amazing that I’m so saddened the following pictures suck so much.
My roommate and I got the Mexican corn there. Cheese, butter and cayenne pepper. What’s not to love? Ah yes, the photo. The low lighting caused the ghosting effect to occur behind the candle too.
Dumont’s Burger is the quintessential burger to have with a beer. Served on a brioche bun, this juicy meat was well-seasoned and the cheese options (I got gruyere on mine) give you a nice selection for any palette. The burger in this picture however, looks haunted.
Park Lucheonette is right around my block in Greenpoint, Brooklyn. Besides being the place where they shot the movie The Departed, they also have amazing rosemary french fries and drool-worthy burgers. This shot above is extremely unsatisfying. I requested goat cheese on my Bistro Burger and it made the burger rich and super delicious. It also had caramelized onions and mushrooms stacked on top. I need to return there (not like it’s far away) and bring justice to this delicious burger.
Last is Piper’s Kilt in Scarsdale, NY. They claim to have some of the best burgers in town so I ventured up there this weekend to see if I agreed with them. I decided to order the Eastchester Burger which included cheddar cheese, bacon and chili.
It was so good it was ridiculous. The chili was a little much so I was glad that they put it on the side for me. The waiter was busting my chops and kept asking if he could get in the photo.
So there you are. Crappy pictures of some burgers you need to check out.

G-g-g-g-ghost burger!
Tom, try a squeeze of fresh lime juice over Mexican corn–YUM!
ghost-ride the burger. ghost-ride the burger.
UNACCEPTABLE. I remember when burger photos had standards. One particularly awesome shot, from a low angle, featuring the branding in the background, stands out in my memory. Sigh. I wish there were more of those…
